Make friends with ATS: 5 tricks to get your CV noticed

Today's job market is increasingly boldly reaching for advanced technologies, among which ATS (Applicant Tracking System) systems, i.e. systems for managing applicants' applications, occupy a special place. They are used by companies to effectively manage the entire recruitment process.

Make friends with ATS: 5 tricks to get your CV noticed

It is possible that the company to which you send your application uses the ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) system to pre-select the submitted application documents. Such systems are designed to streamline the recruitment process by automatically scanning applications for compliance with the requirements specified in the job advertisement. What does this mean for you as a candidate?

The presence of an application tracking system (ATS) in the recruitment process is not something you should/should fear, much less see as insurmountable obstacles. In fact, adapting your resume to the requirements of such a system can turn out to be a simple task that will significantly increase your chances of success. It is enough to adhere to a few basic rules:

Rule number 1: Simplicity and readability

ATS is not human. He will not appreciate fancy formats, graphics and colorful fonts. Bet on a clear layout, chronological description of the experience starting with the most recent items and organized sections. Make sure that each section has an appropriate heading.

Rule number 2: Choose a font that will be readable

Use a single, legible font. Remember that ATS must be able to quickly and efficiently read information from your resume. Pay attention to the appropriate formatting of the text (bold, bulleted) for better clarity.

Rule number 3: Save your resume in PDF format

Forget Word. Save your resume as a PDF to keep it structured and formatted on every device. ATS often has problems with files other than PDF, which can lead to incorrect data reading.

Rule number 4: Remember the keywords

Read the job advertisement carefully and identify key words such as the job title, required skills and experience. Put them in your resume - in the job description, skills section, qualifications.

Rule number 5: Correct all mistakes

Spelling and grammatical errors are a simple path to rejection by ATS. Before sending an application, carefully check your resume for errors. Use the help of a dictionary or ask someone to proofread.

Remember:

  • Clarity and readability of the resume is the key to success.
  • Use the keywords from the ad you are applying to.
  • Scheck the resume for typos or grammatical errors that could mislead the system.
  • Save your CV in PDF format.
