Jobs in IT

Who has a chance in IT today? Young or old? Take a look at the market situation with us.

Jobs in IT

Young people in headphones, with laptops full of stickers and working from anywhere in the world? In popular opinion, the IT industry is a world of high earnings, constant development and professional freedom. However, the reality is much more complex.

While technology continues to drive the economy and developers remain in the price, the IT job market is beginning to change. Increasingly, there is talk of a slowdown, growing competition, as well as the fact that not every path in IT today guarantees quick success. The stereotype of a young programmer with a laptop gives way to the image of an experienced specialist who, in addition to knowing programming languages, can think strategically, understands business and can work with a team.

In the era of artificial intelligence, automation and the growing role of data, there are really a lot of questions! - Is it worth working in IT? - this is one of the basic. But immediately behind them appear: - How to find yourself in this industry and what competencies does a specialist need today so as not to fall out of circulation?

What do the data say and how is the image of today's competencies in the IT industry shaping up?

The state of the IT market (IT Market Snapshot Q2 2025)

The IT job market in the second quarter of 2025 clearly rebounded. The number of offers increased by 4.77% compared to the first quarter, reaching 36,425 ads. Compared to the same period in 2024, this is as much as 7.64% more — the industry is slowly regaining stability after a period of slowdown. Let's remember that the pandemic, which was a period of stagnation for almost all industries, was a period of considerable development for the technology sector. Despite the fact that the growth dynamics are no longer as spectacular as a few years ago, the technology sector still remains one of the most resistant to economic fluctuations. And you can see it in the cited data. However, the process of market consolidation is noticeable. The number of companies conducting recruitment decreased by 2.05% on a quarterly basis and by as much as 12.8% year-on-year. Smaller entities are increasingly withholding employment, while larger organizations are focusing on key positions and precisely matching candidates to business needs. What does that mean? Small companies related to new technologies and IT often face a lack of budget for new investments and projects, which makes their offer on the labor market less or not as favorable as in corporations or large software houses

What are the dominant trends? Two predominate: the rise in importance of B2B contracts and the maintenance of the popularity of hybrid work. In Q2, as many as 64% of offers related to B2B cooperation, which shows the growing importance of flexible employment models. Hybrid work remains the most frequently offered solution (56.4% of advertisements), with a stable share of remote offers (31.51%) and a slight increase in stationary work. B2B work, often described as “flexible”, may seem like a convenient option, but in reality it is worth noting that employment in the B2B formula is not ideal at all. Although it allows for higher salaries and greater flexibility, it also involves the need to pay contributions yourself, no paid leave and less legal protection than with an employment contract. For some specialists, this model means greater independence, but also greater risk and financial responsibility.

Earnings in IT

After a period of rapid wage growth in previous years, we see a clear stabilization of wages in 2025. The average earnings offered on an employment contract are PLN 16,780 gross per month, while in the case of B2B contracts - PLN 21,448 net. This is a small increase compared to the previous quarter, which shows that the situation in the IT market has stabilized for the time being. It is worth noting the increasing transparency; salary ranges appear in almost 30% of advertisements. Among the highest-paid roles, positions requiring broad architectural and strategic competencies predominate. The leader is IT Architect (on average PLN 28,278 net per B2B), followed by DevOps, Big Data, cybersecurity and SAP ERP experts. At the other pole is the Helpdesk, with an average rate of PLN 12,953 net.

What professions does the IT industry need?

Backend Developers are of the greatest interest to employers - the number of jobs here has exceeded 4,500, followed by IT administrators, as well as data analysts and cloud engineers. Among the most demanded technologies, SQL, Python and Java invariably reign.

What can surprise us? Silversi in the IT industry

The market is increasingly giving preference to experienced specialists. As many as 50.21% of offers were directed to seniors, while the share of ads for juniors fell to just 8.25%. Employers today focus primarily on efficiency, independence and practical skills, which makes it difficult for people just entering the industry to start. Increasingly, it is also possible to note the growing role of so-called silvers, that is, specialists 40+ and 50+, who have many years of design, business and technical experience. Companies are beginning to appreciate their stability, loyalty and ability to work in complex IT environments. Although until a few years ago the industry was seen as the domain of young programmers, today there is a clear turn towards competence rather than age.

Such a trend could foster greater diversity in tech teams — both in terms of age and work style.

How to start working in IT?

Entering the IT industry today requires not only technical knowledge, but also continuous improvement of skills. Those planning to embark on a career should consider postgraduate studies or specialist courses that meet current market needs.

Particularly promising directions are:

  • Cybersecurity: studies preparing for the role of IT systems security tester, with an emphasis on practical skills to identify and neutralize threats.
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning - for example, the majors “Python -Programming of Artificial Intelligence” or “Artificial Intelligence in Business”.
  • Big Data: big data engineering and real-time information analysis.

Thanks to flexible forms of employment and high demand for specialists, work in IT continues to be one of the most attractive career paths in Poland. Although the market is becoming more demanding, it is for people with the right qualifications and the desire to grow; a wide career path opens up in a dynamic, stable and well-paid sector. summary

The IT market is rebalancing in 2025; job offers are coming, although recruitments are mainly focused on experienced professionals. Younger candidates have an increasingly difficult start, and the so-called silvers, who bring experience and stability, are gaining increasing importance. While working in IT continues to be attractive, today it requires flexibility, continuous development and the ability to adapt to the realities of the AI era.
