Conference “Safety in Renewable Energy”

Last week, an event organized by the National Association of Employers of the Health and Safety Service took place, during which the most important safety points regarding renewable energy were discussed.

Conference “Safety in Renewable Energy”

The renewable energy industry includes a number of aspects that are crucial for security; the development of the economy and alternative energy sources, a pro-ecological approach, the development of technologies, new jobs and their security. Many different points are entered in this last password and each of them requires a thorough discussion. This is what happened at the last conference Safety in renewable energy, organized by OSPS, which took place on 22 May at the Kashubian Philharmonic in Wejherów. During the meeting, the issues of industry challenges, innovative solutions as well as legal regulations affecting safety were discussed. Honorary partners of the event were: Krzysztof Mikołaj Hildebrandt - Mayor of the City of Wejherowo, Mieczysław Struk - Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, State Labour Inspectorate District Labour Inspectorate in Gdańsk, GospodorkaMorska.pl, Zielonagospodarka.pl and the Polish Marine Technology Forum. Among the other patrons appeared among others.: HSE Energia, Polish Chamber of Offshore Wind Energy and Vulcan Training & Consultancy

The conference focused on the regional development of Pomerania - after all, renewable energy is a future direction that is already developing its potential. Panelists of Part I entitled Renewable Energy - Types and Possibilities of the Pomeranian Region discussed possible sources of alternative renewable energy, potential directions of its development as well as renewable energy projects and the development of hydropower in Pomerania. All these issues combined a look at both the current state of affairs and forecasts for the future.

The essence of safe renewable energy is also the creation of an appropriate law - this issue was covered in the second panel of the conference - Safety of Renewable Energy Workers. The discussion of the necessary legal regulations was combined with knowledge about the current situation of employees and the OSH service in the renewable energy sector as well as topics related to employee competencies, training, certification of OSH services and market demand. An important issue raised during this panel was also how we can be inspired by international safety standards.

During Panel III Areas Development of Occupational Safety and Health Services in the Renewable Energy Sector The speakers presented presentations on shaping the right conditions in the industry, customer requirements for suppliers and contractors as well as practical solutions in the field of safety. In discussion Lukasz Wawrzyniak COO HSSEQ HSE ENERGI addressed the topic of interdisciplinary safety in renewable energy. This is due to the fusion of multiple areas such as: technology, culture and operability. Important points of this conversation were, emphasized by Łukasz Wawrzyniak, the importance of the development of digitalization and its impact on the effectiveness of OSH systems and the role of safety as a strategic pillar of RES development. Also mentioned was an aspect that is often overlooked and represents a key point affecting the community in the industry - communication. The discussions highlighted challenges related to generational and intercultural differences, as well as the fact that a properly thought-out communication strategy is also the foundation of security. After all, each of us, depending on age and background, can understand norms and standards differently - talking about them helps to develop a culture of safety built on common foundations.

The event was an opportunity to exchange thoughts and insights and a space to share experiences and listen to substantive lectures. Thanks to the variety of topics discussed, it was possible to see that security in renewable energy is a multidimensional challenge
