Sustainable Development Goal: Partnerships for the Goals

The UN's final goal is to work together towards all 17 goals for 2030. All in order to leave the world a better place to live. Who participates in the activities?

Sustainable Development Goal: Partnerships for the Goals

In order to effectively implement The Agenda for Sustainable Development requires partnerships, i.e. intergovernmental cooperation working together with the private sector and civil society. The premise of this inclusive work should be principles and values, a common vision and common goals, putting people and our planet at the center of action. Effectiveness is also action at the micro level. On the one hand, we need global work for the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), on the other hand, it is extremely important how we act at the national, regional and local levels.

SDGs Tasks

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contained in the 2030 Agenda, underline the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in many areas. In the range finances Emphasis was placed on mobilizing domestic and international resources, fully implementing development aid commitments, reducing the debt of developing countries and supporting investment in the least developed countries. In the area technology It is important to strengthen international cooperation, transfer of innovative and environmentally friendly solutions and develop a technology bank that facilitates access to digital knowledge and tools. The next priority is capacity building by supporting developing countries in the implementation of their development plans through North-South, South-South cooperation and trilateral partnerships. It also plays an important role trade, which is to become fairer, more open and non-discriminatory, inter alia, by increasing the share of LDCs in global exports. In the range Systemic issues the need for macroeconomic stability, policy coherence and respect for national autonomy in the formulation of development strategies was stressed. The 2030 Agenda also emphasizes partnerships, both global and public-private and with the participation of civil society, which promote the exchange of knowledge, technology and finance. The key element remains data, monitoring and accountability, where the aim is to improve the quality of statistics and develop new indicators that better reflect progress in achieving sustainable development than traditional measures such as GDP.

Current situation

In 2017, official development assistance (ODA) provided by donor countries was US$146.6 billion, a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to 2016 in real terms OECD. At the same time, about 79% of goods imported from developing countries went into developed country markets duty-free, and debt in developing countries remained at about 3% of annual export receipts. However, technological developments have brought significant changes: the number of Internet users in Africa has increased from about 181 million in 2014 to almost 646 million today Statistician, Egypt Today, and at the same time, almost 4 billion people in the world still remain offline, about 90% of whom live in developing countries. These data show that despite the challenges of financing and debt, digitalisation is becoming one of the key drivers of development, especially in regions hitherto excluded from technology.

Who participates in the partnership for the Sustainable Development Goals?

On a global and international level The Sustainable Development Goals are coordinated primarily by the United Nations and their implementation is supported by specialized agencies such as UNDP (United Nations Development Program), UNICEF, WHO or UNEP. The OECD, which monitors development aid flows, and the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank, which support developing countries in trade, finance and poverty reduction, also play an important role. At the regional level The responsibility lies with organizations such as the European Union, which integrates the SDGs into development and climate policy, or the African Union, which links the SDGs with the African Agenda 2063. ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and MERCOSUR in South America also take action to strengthen economic and social cooperation in a spirit of sustainable development. At the national level The implementation of the SDGs is based on government development strategies and financial and planning institutions, such as the ministries of finance, economy, environment and digitalization. Many countries also set up special committees for the 2030 Agenda or incorporate the targets into medium- and long-term strategies. Civil society and the private sector Does it also contribute to the SDGs? Yes, NGOs, universities, foundations and companies are also increasingly important, which support the implementation of the SDGs through CSR strategy and non-financial reporting. For example, the private sector is engaged in the energy transition, investments in green technologies and social action. An important element of sustainable energy development is of course offshore. Offshore wind energy is one of the most important projects towards green energy and Poland is in the process of building wind farms. You can find more about this in the tab Repolonization of the economy: how much will Poland be offshore?

What can you do to achieve the goals of the UN?

Although the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seems idealistic and even unrealistic, partial participation in the tasks is possible and necessary even if implemented on a small scale. This is not only the task of governments or international organizations, because in fact each of them can influence their approach to their goals. On an individual level, you can start with everyday choices: saving energy and water, reducing food waste, using public transport or choosing products that are ethically and environmentally friendly. It is also worth supporting local producers and companies that apply the principles of responsible business. However, we are well aware that such actions are often not enough. Much more can be achieved by getting involved in the activities of your community. Participation in environmental actions, promoting education, supporting charitable organizations or participating in civic initiatives are some examples. Raising awareness is also important; sharing knowledge about the SDGs with family, friends or colleagues contributes to building a culture of responsibility. However, it is crucial to put real pressure on the authorities, politicians and politicians. Staging resistance or organizing protests. Usually they are the ones that most influence the development of political events. At a professional and educational level, you can promote sustainable development in the workplace or study, for example by initiating green projects, implementing circular economy principles, or promoting equality and diversity. Even small steps, taken consistently, are of great importance, because together they create a global movement for a better and fairer world.
